Trade tower built in a hostile land at a strange time.
Built by the bio luminescent lit lake, Gracklenesh, Gremdal Tor is a stopover for travelers crossing the Underdark between the enclave located at Skull Port to either taking the fork to the north, northeast to the Deep Gnome city of Blindingstone, or going to the west and reaching the trade enclave outside Duergar controlled Gracklstugh. The latter was if you really wanted to deal directly with the Duergar, which is often ill-advised for non-Duergar as getting closer to their major cities means dealing with uninhibited Duergar who are known to be quick to hostility and cruelty compared to their trading missions across the Underdark where they try and play by the rules as good guests.
For many outside travelers who want to deal with Underdark goods and not expose themselves to immediate threats, they often arrive at Gremdal Tor, which is manned in part by the Cult of Eilistraee Drow (who unlike Lloth has not suffered a catastrophe that has thrown their society in disarray), The Stormrock Battalion Adventuing Company (SBAC), representatives of the Blindingstone Chamber of Commerce, and the Duergar Merchant's Combine.
Notes
- Gremdal Tor is built out of substance known as darkstone, which is said to have warping effect on certain spells. It is advised to consult the tower's steward before casting any spells if you have a concern about the effect.
- The region has been effected by the 'Silence of Lloth' following a combination of adventurers injuring her and stealing her spider ship from the Demonweb Pits, followed by a sudden ambush by the deities Laduguer, Deep Duerra, and Callarduran Smoothhands. Of the three, it was the Lord of the Svirfneblin who managed to land a major blow, draining Lloth's domain of Trickery and Deception and pouring onto Callarduran. The silence, and the lack of ability to bless Drow deviousness has caused a major rift in Drow culture and has put several Drow city-states on the backfoot for the first time.
- Gurnin Stormcrow is a Half-Orc Cleric of Tempus and senior member of the Stormrock Battalion Adventuring Company. He is a main healer and often the castle steward, although he lacks a certain finesse that makes for a good host for weary travelers crossing the Underdark.
- Lake Gracklenesh is said to be home to a powerful lake serpent. On one hand, it can be ornery towards surface dwellers. On the other hand, its last fight with a rogue aboleth manage chase the psionic hazard from the region, so right now the Gracklenash Monster is tolerated.
- Jhangara Despval is the Drow Cleric of Eilistraee that attempts to proselytize the moonlight dancer to traveling Drow, especially those in-between deities given the reordering to Drow society and the pantheon. Her attempts have met with mixed success.
