Rebel Base Run #2

 

Round #1 - Initiative

Party: 19

Daisy fires her SMG at the doorway, targeting both men and forcing them to Dex Save (12) or take damage. Damage: 3

Guard Save: 4 - Failure. Damage: 3. HP: 15/18

Engineer Save: 16 - Save. No Damage.

Po moves up and blasts the area with a cone of fire. Save: 11 - Damage: 5/2)

Guard Save: 12 - Save! 2 damage. Guard HP: 13/18 Engineer Save: 6 - Failure. 5 Damage. Engineer HP: 9/15

Caewen moves on Engineer and attacks with her Razorsword. Attack: 14 - Hit. Damage: 9. Engineer HP: 0/14 - Slain

Caine keeps trying to access the computer network. He is given one more time before he is locked out for good. Computer check: 20 - Success. Caine has hacked in and his first order of business is shutting down the cameras.

Rebel Guard fires a shotgun blast at Po. Attack: Natural 1 - Automatic Miss. (GM Roll for Fumble (d6): 4 - Yes). The shotgun jams and the guard curses his luck, dropping the weapon. He risks a Parting Shot from Caewen by running back into the cells.

Caewen parting shot. Attack: Natural 20! Crit Damage: 13+10 = 23. Rebel Guard: 0/18 - Slain!

“It is only a matter of time before someone starts looking into the front,” Caine said from the terminal that he was working at. Both his fingers and tail worked to keep him logged into the system and avoid interference from the command center.

“Is there anyone in the cells? Maybe someone needs our help?” Daisy asked. ---

Caine attempts to pull up the camera feed into the cells. He makes a Computer Use (+5): 24 - Success.

Caine is able to look inside the cells. First, he notes the outer common room is empty. Inside the cells themselves, one contained a lone woman while the other contained a lizardfolk. Were they together when they were captured? Were they unfortunate locals being swept up by an insurgency that was growing in Sweetbay? Caine could not find records that detailed how the two were captured.

(Encounter Check 1-in-6: 3 - No Encounter)

Daisy uses Persuade at Farm Boy to see if he could tell them what he knew about the prisoners. Persuade: 19 - Success.

Farm Boy reveals that the human woman is a local healer who uses snakes as part of her medical work. He was not sure how it was exactly, but that she was somehow able to manipulate the venom of her serpents to produce antidotes, sleeping aids, and other medicines that they inject into the target by biting them. Farm Boy does know that Commander Girdwood has sent the snakes to the base’s sickbay for testing.

The Saurian was a local fisherman whom the rebels took as a prisoner as Girdwood’s plans include building a seaside outpost to send and receive shipments and personnel via waterways. It has yet to be decided about what to do with the lizardfolk. ---

“Girdwood is waiting for orders from his superiors if they want to try and get in touch with the Saurian population in the north to see if they would join the rebellion. Until then, we’ve been putting up with the Saurian’s complaints about the temperatures.”

“Who are Girdwood’s superiors?” Daisy asked.

Farm Boy shook his head, then he saw Caewen narrow her eyes and lean in. He added verbally, “I don’t know. I know Girdwood speaks to someone outside the station on a scrambler, but a lot of us were recruited from the same village by Girdwood and Moxley, his second in command.”

Daisy and Caewen perform an Insight and roll the following respectively: Natural 20 & 16 - They have a solid idea that Farm Boy is telling the truth.

“I would like to trust you about you totally surrendering and allowing you to stay here, my friend, but right now there are too many of your fellow rebels around to believe any declarations,” Daisy said and looked to the others, “We should lock him up.”

Po noted, “We better do something quick.” ---

Encounter Check (2-in-6): 3 - No Encounter ---

Daisy volunteers to go alone as Caewen and Po are needed to watch the doors. Caine is on the console, and as far as the cameras are concerned, Caine can confirm that the initial room is clear. Daisy reaches the first door and finds it locked.

Q: Are the controls simple to use? A: Yes, no modification

Daisy prepares herself for the possibility of confronting a crazy person. She knows behind the first door is a human woman that the farm boy claims is some sort of healer. With las pistol drawn at her side, Daisy opens the door and sees the woman sitting on a cot, looking at the door apprehensively, her eyes flicked up to Daisy. ---

“First time I’ve seen a woman in the group,” The prisoner said.

“I’m not with the people that took you prisoner,” Daisy said and slowly stuck her head before looking at the prisoner, “Are you armed?”

The prisoner shook her head, “They were thorough about making sure I was placed in here with nothing but the clothes on my back. That’s exactly what I had when they captured me. Clothes on my back. The rest of my gear was in my healer’s bag along with my snakes. I had hoped my reputation as a healer would keep me from being harassed.”

“We are locals from Calantha Spire, we happened to learn about rebels increasing activity in these parts,” Daiy said before stepping outside, “You can come out now, we won’t hurt you.”

“I’ve got to find my snakes,” The prisoner rose and stepped into the common room.

“We haven’t seen any snakes, our prisoner said that they were keeping them in sickbay for study,” Daisy said.

“That’s the problem,” The prisoner said as she rose, “The snakes are precious, and I fear those troopers will hurt them in trying to study how I use them to make anti-toxin.” The prisoner introduced herself as McIntyre, a traveling healer. ---

Daisy offers to help find McIntyre’s bag in the hopes that McIntyre can provide healing. When asked if she knows much about the other prisoner… let’s ask the oracle to see what she knows:

Q: Does McIntyre know much about the Lizardfolk in the cell next to hers? A: Yes, and - She knows Surzail, a local lizardfolk who was guiding her from the beaches into the deeper river and forest country with plans to pay Surzail so that he could act as her translator with the local tribes when they were captured together by rebel troops and taken to the base.

Q: Is McIntyre’s kit bag located in the room?
A: Yes, and it is sitting on the guard desk with a few pieces of equipment left on the table.

McIntyre is allowed to collect her gear while Daisy releases Surzail, the Lizardfolk. The Lizard’s common tongue is halting, as he appears self-conscious at the various noises he makes as he tries to speak, but he is eager to leave and is cooperative. ---

“They asked if I was kin to one of the chieftains in the forest, I told them I just caught fish and lived on my own. They were hoping I would help locate one of the tribes that they could convince to rise up,” Surzail said.

“I’m bringing one of the rebels we took prisoner in here, maybe you can recognize him?” Daisy asked.

Surzail shrugged, “Many of them look the same to me.” ---

(Encounter Check: 2-in-6 = 2 - Encounter!) - One of the rebel guards and a set of station minions that were in the lounge have been ordered to investigate what is going on at entrance control. The guard is armed with a shotgun while the two minions are hauling pistols as they pass through the first set of doors and start heading towards the stairs leading into the entrance control room.

Caine gets a ‘Perception’ check to see if he spots it on camera. Perception: 16 vs. 12 - He spots rebels heading towards Caewen’s side of the room and alerts her. ---

Caewen takes a step back and readies to take the first man through the door. As the doors come open and a shotgunner appears, he gets a Perception check to see if he is surprised. Perception: 12 vs. 12 - Success. He is not surprised and it becomes an initiative roll.

Round #1  Initiative GM: 5 Players: 1

Guard responds by firing his shotgun at Caewen. Attack: 22 - Hit. Damage: 6. Caewen HP: 14/20

Minion #1 fires a pistol at Caewen. Attack: 11 - Miss

Minion #2 moves back and waits at the bottom with a gun drawn.

Caewen attack’s Guard #1 with her chain sword. Attack: 14 - Hit. Damage: 9. Guard HP: 9/18

Caine tries to scramble comm links in the area to prevent the locals from alerting command. This will be considered a hard attempt. Computer check: 24 vs. 18 - Success, commlinks are scrambled in the southern portion of the base.

Po watches the second door while calling Daisy and warning her of trouble.

Daisy moves back into the room and covers Farm Boy, who has made no attempt to escape.

McIntyre and Surzail remain in the cell region, having few weapons on hand to defend themselves with. All they could do was hope for the best, or find a discarded gun.

Round #2 Minion #2 takes a few steps back and tries to radio the control room, only to find his comm unit scrambled.

Minion #1 moves back, firing at Caewen as she slashes at Guard. Attack: 12 - Miss

The guard finally moves back. He wants to fire, so he risks an attack of opportunity for Caewen. Attack of Opportunity (Caewen): 8 - Miss

Guard fires his shotgun at Caewen. Attack: Natural 20 - Crit! Damage: 12 + 10 = 22. Caewen HP: 0/20 - Caewen falls!

Daisy moves and treats Caewen with a Cure Wounds (Stimshot). Daisy spends a Tech Slot/Spell Slot (⅔ Remaining) and heals Caewen 7. Caewen HP: 7/20 - Stabilized and up.

Po moves to the doorway and fires a flame unit at Guard. Guard must make Dex Save for ½ damage (2d6). Damage: 8

Guard #1 Save: 10 vs. DC: 11 - Failure, full damage. HP: 1/18

Minion #1 Save: 16 - Save. Damage: 4. HP: 5/9

Caine attempts to lock the Blast Door, trapping the three guards before they can get into the main hallway. Computer Check: Natural 20 - He is able to lock both blast doors near the entranceway.

Caewen uses her Free Action and uses Second Wind, healing: 9. Caewen HP: 16/20

McIntyre moves into the room to the east of where the fighting is going on. She is prepared to help with healing. Meanwhile Surzail hangs behind McIntyre, still watching the proceedings.

Round #3 Guard #1 moves towards the back blast door that has them trapped. He burnt from the flamer unit, but is still active and has the scattergun pointed down the hall.

Minion #1 and Minion #2 take up position. They kneel, gaining light cover (+2 AC) vs. range as they cover the open door leading back to the control room.

Daisy calls down and tries to get the three to surrender. Although Daisy knows that Caewen would rather grind her chainsword into Guard for what just happened, she is interested in trying to avoid too many unnecessary deaths. Persuade: 11 vs. Wisdom Results:

Guard: Natural 1 - Surrenders Minion #1: 19 - Maintains Minion #2: 3 - Surrenders

The three rebels argue about taking their chances and fighting it out, or surrendering and maybe being turned over to the authorities with only a light punishment of jail time and labor.

Caewen is disgruntled. She stalks over to Surzail and McIntyre and offers the pistol she took off Farm Boy. While McIntyre is reluctant to arm herself, believing she is a healer, Surzail does take up Caewen’s offered weapon.

Surzail acquires a Slug Pistol (1d6 + Dex Piercing damage)

Caine finds his computer access challenged. He has to roll off against an operator inside the base. Caine (+5) vs. Engineer (+4): 21 vs. 17 - He maintains control over his access, but Caine is aware that command is aware of the intrusion.

Po points his flamer at the empty stairwell, keeping aware that any of them might charge in at any moment.

McIntyre holds action until someone needs aid. ---

Q: Does Minion #1 fire on his companions for trying to surrender?

A: No, and he ultimately surrenders.

Round #4 At the start of round #4 Minion #1, despite his desire to keep fighting, also surrenders given the hopeless situation. The three drop their weapons when ordered and give themselves over. The party collects 2 slug pistols and a shotgun.

McIntyre maintains her oath and treats a badly injured Guard #1. She heals him 9 hit points. 10/18. McIntyre Power Points (¾ Remaining).

Caewen and Daisy lead the four men, splitting them in twos into the different holding cells before locking them in.

Po holds action to listen out for either door.

Surzail takes up the shotgun and offers McIntyre a pistol. She is reluctant, but the rebels have shown themselves more than willing to use violence. She takes a pistol and a holster, tucking it under her arm.
